  ######Press Release######

ELKTON, VA, July 20, 2017 – Elkton Area United Services (EAUS) and SoLace Studios Fine Handcrafts reach out to the community to support area students with “Stock the Rock”, an East Rockingham School Supplies Drive from August 1-15.

Many people don’t realize the significant need in the Elkton area. Elkton is just 17 miles from Harrisonburg, but for area students getting ready for the school year, the need can be much more significant.

“The percentage of people living at or below poverty level is estimated at 12% compared to 9.6% in Rockingham County as a whole,” explains Marsha Deavers, Executive Director of Elkton Area United Services. “We do benefit from the larger school supply drives in the county, but our students need a little more help to get them through the year.”

That’s why for the past ten years, Elkton-area students have benefitted from this supplemental school supplies drive, founded by local artist and business owner Barb Polin of SoLace Studios, who has continued to provide the hub for the activity around the drive. Polin opens her downtown Elkton fine handcrafts gallery and studio as the central collection center for the Stock the Rock, which runs from August 1-15. Every year, Polin also provides a “thank you” incentive: a coupon for 15% off an entire SoLace purchase good through the end of 2017 for people donating a minimum of $10 in cash or school supplies – this incentive brings out residents and visitors alike to support the students in our community.

New for 2017, 5 area restaurants are offering a 10% discount voucher good for donations made during tax free weekend of  August 4-6 at Stock the Rock. Restaurants offering discounts include: Goodfellas,
Ciros Italian Eatery, El Paso Mexican Grille, Domino’s Pizza and Peking China.
A voucher will be issued at the time donations are made.

EAUS and SoLace are also grateful for the support of United Bank and Color Quest Custom Printing for
Stock The Rock.
